Perspectives from the field
Autonomous flight. Arctic insight.
Helping NILU researchers understand greenhouse gas emissions from thawing permafrost.

Drones for climate science
The NILU-MISO 2025–2026 programme, led by the Norwegian Institute for Air Research, studies greenhouse gas emissions caused by thawing Arctic permafrost.
Measurements close to the ground
Azur Drones integrated a high-precision gas sensor on its E2 autonomous drone for near-surface measurements. A dedicated mission in Svalbard in summer 2025 worked with local researchers to collect data in challenging Arctic conditions.
Reliable, repeatable data
Autonomous missions support climate research with consistent data collection in areas that are difficult to reach using traditional methods.
